The first hour
It starts with a sound.
A pant-hoot rolls across the treetops, then another answers from further away. Your guide lifts a hand. Nobody speaks.
Chimpanzee tracking is not a drive-by sighting. You set out at first light with a ranger, follow fresh signs along muddy forest trails and listen for the community to reveal itself. Sometimes you find them in two hours. Sometimes it takes half a day. That uncertainty is part of the magic.
Then you are there, a few metres from an animal that looks back with eyes that feel far too familiar, and you have about an hour to simply watch. Most guests say it is the hour they replay the longest.
