Tour overview

Uganda, from the Nile to the mountains

This is Uganda's complete wildlife story, told slowly and in comfort. You begin at Murchison Falls, where the Nile roars through a gap in the rock, then track chimpanzees in Kibale Forest and watch hippos and elephants at Queen Elizabeth National Park.

The journey ends in Bwindi, where you spend an hour with a mountain gorilla family. Luxury lodges, a private driver guide and well paced days make it a once in a lifetime safari that never feels rushed.

The story of your trip

Three moments you will carry home

THE THUNDER

Where the Nile squeezes through

The river narrows to a gap of a few metres and drops in a roaring plume. From the boat, the sound reaches you before the view does.

THE CHANNEL

Hippos, buffalo and elephants

On the Kazinga Channel, animals gather at the water edge in a slow, close parade. Your boat drifts among them, and everyone falls quiet.

THE HOUR

Time slows down

The forest closes around you. A young gorilla studies you, an adult chews calmly, and one hour passes at the pace of the forest.

Day by day programme

Your eight days in Uganda

Elephants, giraffes and buffalo greet the morning. The afternoon belongs to the Nile and the roar of the falls.

  • 06:30Take the ferry across the Nile to the northern bank.
  • 07:00Game drive, looking for elephants, giraffes, lions and buffalo.

Murchison Falls to Kibale

A long, scenic day that swaps open plains for hills, tea and a forest alive with calls.

  • 08:00Depart toward Kibale, about 7 to 8 hours.
  • 12:30Lunch break on the road.
  • 16:30Arrive at your lodge near Kibale Forest.
  • 19:30Dinner and a briefing on tomorrow.
This is the longest drive of the trip, so we start early and take it slowly.
DAY 4

Chimpanzees, then the savannah

Tracking in Kibale, on to Queen Elizabeth

Kibale is loud with monkeys and birds. Then a chorus of pant hoots tells your trackers the chimps are close.

  • 06:30Breakfast.
  • 07:30Briefing at the Kibale park visitor centre. Your group is assigned.
  • 08:00Track chimpanzees with a ranger, usually 2 to 5 hours. You spend 1 hour with them once found.

Timings after 08:00 depend on where the chimps are. A porter and walking stick help on wet trails.
DAY 5

Game drive and Kazinga cruise

Mornings belong to the plains. Afternoons belong to the water, where hippos, buffalo and elephants gather at the channel edge.

  • 06:30Early game drive across the Kasenyi plains.

  • 14:30Kazinga Channel boat cruise, about 2 hours.

The southern plains hold fig trees where lions sometimes rest. Then the road lifts into the mist and the hills of Kanungu.

  • 07:30Breakfast and check out.
  • 09:00Drive south to the Ishasha sector.
  • 11:00Game drive in Ishasha, looking for lions resting in the fig trees.
